After performing and recording for years as a singer/songwriter in California John decided in 2011 to move to Nashville to finally put his fulltime effort into writing songs. He saw some immediate success, having had his song, A Woman Changes Everything, win both the Country Category and Best Song of the Music Festival in the 2012 HillTop Records Online Music Festival for Songwriters. Also that year, another one of this songs, One of Those Nights (co-written with Chip Martin), was chosen to be one of the top 10 finalists in the 2012 CMT/NSAI Songwriting Contest.
He landed his first major cut in 2013 with the same song, One of Those Nights, on Taylor Hicks (Season 5 American Idol Winner) Country Album. Unfortunately the project was scrapped and the song never released.
After a lot of hard work and persistence John garnered his first GRAMMY nomination in 2015 for his song, Woman Up, released as a single by recent American Idol contestant and emerging Country artist, Tori Martin and co-written with Dan Reifsnyder and Sarah Spencer.
Over the past couple of years John has continued to rack up cuts by several independent artists and is now co-writing with several young emerging singer/songwriters across several genres; from pop to indie to folk to country. Many of these artists’ albums and EP’s are due out in 2018 and early 2019. Some of those artists include Dan O’Rourke, Sam Gyllenhaal, Sydney St. George, Nicole Lewis, as well as Tori Martin.
John recently signed on with Matt Lindsey, a longtime Nashville publisher who most recently oversaw the writers at Big Yellow Dog (including Maren Morris, Meghan Trainor and Josh Kear), to manage and pitch his catalog.
John is very excited about being the winner of the 2017 USA Songwriting Competition Country category, with his song, If You Drink, along with his co-writers (once again, Dan Reifsnyder and Sarah Spencer!). This song was recorded in 2018 by Country Rocker and Marine Vet, Chris Turner. He has released this song on all streaming and download platforms and is currently finishing up his music video of the song. He will be releasing this song to radio in January 2019.
Overall, 2018 was a year of growth for John; having racked up 26 cuts with artists all over the country.
He is looking forward to 2019 as another leap forward in his songwriting career.
